HOUSTON, Aug. 7 -- Baker Hughes Inc., Houston, acquired OCRE (Scotland) Ltd. from Maritime Well Service, a division of Aker Maritime ASA, Norway, in what company officials described Tuesday only as "a small cash deal."

Based in Aberdeen, OCRE specializes in interventionless oil and natural gas well completion products. The acquisition is expected to enhance Baker Hughes' deepwater completions capabilities by adding a third interventionless packer-setting method along with Edge and hydrostatic ruptured disc methods.

"We can now offer a complete suite of interventionless settings and reach a wider market with these niche products," said Enrique M. Proaño, director of Global Business Development for Baker Oil Tools, a division of Baker Hughes.

Baker Oil Tools is a leader in total completion, workover, and fishing operations for exploration and production companies.
