Baker Hughes will lead the integrated plug and abandonment campaign planning phase, as well as deliver integrated services across several wells in the North Sea.

Equinor Energy AS has let a contract to Baker Hughes to provide plug and abandonment (P&A) services in Oseberg East field on Norway’s Continental Shelf.

Baker Hughes’ Mature Assets Solutions team will lead the integrated P&A campaign planning phase, as well as deliver integrated P&A services across several wells in the North Sea, Baker Hughes said in a release June 11.

To manage the project, Baker Hughes will establish a P&A center in Bergen and Stavanger.

Production shutdown and well plugging at Oseberg East, the smallest of the platforms in the Oseberg area in the northern part of the North Sea, is expected to begin in 2026. The platform lies 25 km northeast of Oseberg field center.

In March, Equinor awarded framework agreements to oil service companies Archer Oiltools and Baker Hughes Norge for full-range delivery of plugging services with a duration of 3 years, with two 2-year options.

Archer will execute planning work for the permanent P&A of the Snorre UPA and Heidrun B&C templates.
