The international rig count increased 7 units month-over-month to 841 in January from 834 rigs in December, and up 164 from 677 a year ago, according to Baker Hughes data.
The worldwide rig count for January was 1,632, up 69 from 1563 in December and up 449 from 1,183 in January 2021.
Latin America remained unchanged at 158 units in January from December, but up 39 units year-over-year.
The average US rig count for January was 601, up 22 from 579 in December and up 232 from 369 in January 2021. The average Canadian rig count for January was 190, up 40 from 150 in December, and up 53 from 137 in January 2021.
The Asia-Pacific region was up 4 units during the month to 197 and up 35 rigs compared with its January 2021 average.
Africa was down 1 unit during the month to 86, but up 35 year-over-year.
Europe was down 3 units to reach 111 in January but is up 17 units year-over-year.
The Middle East was up 7 units month-over-month at 289, up 38 from its February 2021 average.
