Brunei Shell Petroleum Co. Sdn. Bhd. (BSP) has let a contract to Maersk Drilling for the Maersk Viking drillship to drill one deepwater exploration well offshore Brunei Darussalam.

Brunei Shell Petroleum Co. Sdn. Bhd. (BSP) has let a contract to Maersk Drilling for the Maersk Viking drillship to drill one deepwater exploration well offshore Brunei Darussalam. The contract is expected to begin in March 2021 with an estimated duration of 35 days. The firm contract value is $9 million, including additional services provided and a mobilization fee, the service provider said. The contract includes an additional one-well option.

Maersk Viking was delivered in 2013. It is currently warm-stacked in Johor, Malaysia, after completing a drilling campaign in the Bay of Bengal earlier this year.

The contract follows BSP’s exercised extension option for the Maersk Convincer jack up allowing the rig to continue operating offshore Brunei Darussalam until end-2022 (OGJ Online, Aug. 31, 2020).
