Baker Hughes: International rig count rises 34 units in December

The international rig count for December reached 1,025, up 34 units from the 991 rigs counted in November and up 71 units from the 954 rigs counted in December 2017, according to Baker Hughes data. The international offshore rig count for December was 234, up 28 units from the 206 counted in November, and up 43 from the 191 counted in December 2017.

The worldwide rig count for December was 2,244 units, down 22 from the 2,266 rigs counted in November, and up 155 from the 2,089 rigs counted in December 2017.

The average US rig count for December was 1,078, up 1 unit from the 1,077 counted in November, and up 148 from the 930 counted in December 2017.

Europe is up 12 rigs to reach 95 in December and up 8 units year-over-year.

Latin America is up 8 units from the previous month at 197 and up 2 units year-over-year.

The Asia-Pacific region is up 9 units during the month to 231, and up 14 units from its year-ago average.

The Middle East remained unchanged month-over-month at 394, but 16 units above its year-ago average.

The average Canadian rig count for December was 141, down 57 units from the 198 counted in November, and down 64 from the 205 counted a year ago.
