The international rig count for May reached 1,126, up 64 units from 1,062 in April and up 159 units from 967 in May 2018, according to Baker Hughes data. The international offshore rig count for May was 240, down 11 units from 251 in April and up 42 units from 198 in May 2018.

The average US rig count for May was 986, down 26 units from 1,012 in April and down 60 units from 1,046 in May 2018.

Europe is up 88 units with 186 in May and up 106 units year-over-year. Effective June 7, Ukraine has been added to the Baker Hughes International Rig Count. In May, Ukraine represented 84 of the 186 active drilling rigs in Europe, an increase of 88 rigs compared to April and an increase of 106 rigs compared to May 2018.

Latin America is down 11 units from the previous month at 179 and up 5 units year-over-year.

The Asia-Pacific region is down 8 units to 228 and up 10 units from its year-ago average.

The Middle East is down 2 units month-over-month to 410 and up 9 units year-over-year.

The average Canadian rig count for May was 70, up 4 from 66 units in April and down 13 units from 83 in May 2018.
