Genel Energy plc has appointed Paul Weir as chief executive officer and as a member of the board of directors, with immediate effect.
Weir was previously chief operating officer before being appointed interim chief executive officer in June after the company’s previous chief executive, Bill Higgs agreed to step down.
Weir joined Genel in January 2020, having worked for more than 30 years in upstream exploration and production with experience in the North Sea, Southeast Asia, and Africa. Before joining Genel, he was group head of operations and safety at Tullow Oil and spent 13 years at Talisman as vice-president of production and exploration.
