North America rig count down slightly
Total drilling activity in North America decreased slightly the week ended Aug. 22, with 718 rotary rigs working, reported Baker Hughes. The count is down 4 from last week, and down 86 from the same time last year.
The number of rotary rigs working in the US decreased by 1 to 538. The count is down 47 units from the same period in 2024. There were 523 rigs working on land, 1 fewer than last week. The number of rigs working in inland waters and offshore remained unchanged at 2 and 13, respectively.
Texas dropped 2 rigs this week, leaving 240 rigs running. North Dakota dropped a single unit to leave 28 rigs working.
Louisiana gained 2 rigs this week for a total count of 38.
Canada’s rig count dropped by 3 this week, leaving 180 rigs working. The total count is down 39 from this time a year ago.
