Total drilling activity in North America increased slightly the week ended Feb. 23, with 857 rotary rigs working, reported Baker Hughes.

Total drilling activity in North America increased slightly the week ended Feb. 23, with 857 rotary rigs working, reported Baker Hughes. The count is down 140 from the same time last year but up 2 from last week.

The number of rotary rigs working in the US increased by 5 to 626 from 621. The count is down 127 units from the same period in 2023. There were 606 rigs onshore, 4 more than were drilling last week. The number of rigs working in inland waters remained unchanged at 0, while the count for rigs working offshore increased by a single unit to hit 20 rigs working for the week.

Texas and Oklahoma gained 2 rigs this week to reach 301 and 44, respectively. New Mexico, Pennsylvania, and Alaska gained a single rig each to end the week with 102, 24, and 11, respectively. Ohio and West Virginia each dropped a single unit to reach respective counts of 12 and 7.

Canada dropped 3 rigs this week to 231. The count is down 13 units from the same time a year ago.
