Baker Hughes: US rig count climbs 6 units to 929

The US rig count climbed for the fourth straight week with a 6-unit gain to 929 rigs working during the week ended Dec. 1, data from Baker Hughes indicate.

The US rig count climbed for the fourth straight week with a 6-unit gain to 929 rigs working during the week ended Dec. 1, data from Baker Hughes indicate.

Gas-directed rigs were up 4 units from a week ago to 180. Rigs targeting oil gained 2 units to reach 749 rigs.

Onshore rigs reached 908, an increase of 8 units from a week ago. Rigs drilling offshore were down 2 units, both from the Gulf of Mexico, to 20 rigs.

With a 4-unit gain to 454, Texas led the major oil- and gas-producing states, while New Mexico, North Dakota, and Utah gained 1 rig each with respective counts of 70, 47, and 12.

Louisiana and Colorado were down 1 rig each to respective counts of 62 and 36.

Eight states were unchanged during the week: Oklahoma, 122; Pennsylvania, 31; Ohio, 30; Wyoming, 25; California, 14; West Virginia, 12; Alaska, 5; and Arkansas, 0.

Canada gained 7 units to 222. Oil-directed rigs increased 4 units to 111. Those rigs drilling for gas increased 3 units to 111.
