Petro Rio SA received approval from Brazil’s National Petroleum, Gas, and Biofuels Agency (ANP) to drill four production wells and three horizontal injection wells in Frade field, Campos basin. ANP also authorized immediate resumption of water injection in two existing injection wells for one year or until the new injectors come online.
The first phase of the drilling campaign includes one production well and two injection wells, expected to start between fourth-quarter 2021 and first-quarter 2022.
The field lies about 118 km off the north coast of Rio de Janeiro in water depth of 1,050-1,300 m. Production started in June 2009 and average production in 2020 was about 20,000 boe/d (OGJ Online, Feb. 8, 2021).
After the conclusion of the first phase at Frade, PetroRio will start Wahoo development.
PetroRio is operator at Frade with 100% ownership.
