Kuwait Energy spuds Abu Sennan well
Kuwait Energy Egypt has spudded the ASD-1X exploration well in Al Jahraa field in the Abu Sennan license, onshore Egypt, on Mar. 6, partner United Oil & Gas PLC said in a Mar. 8 release.
ASD-1X is a vertical exploration well 12 km northeast of Al Jahraa. It primarily targets sandstone reservoirs of Abu Roash C and E, with Abu Roash G reservoir providing a secondary target. The targeted reservoirs are expected to be encountered at 3,000-3,500 m measured depth.
The well will be drilled by the EDC-50 rig, which recently completed the ASH-3 development well (OGJ Online, Feb. 15, 2021). The well is expected to take up to 60 days to drill and complete. If successful, it could be rapidly be placed on production through existing infrastructure.
ASD-1X is the second well in the 2021 campaign, which is entirely funded from operational cashflow. Subject to final approvals, joint venture partners have agreed to a third well, AJ-8, for 2021, which was originally scheduled for 2020 and deferred due to the lower oil price environment. It will target the Abu Roash and Bahariya reservoirs in an undrained area of Al Jahraa field and will be drilled by the EDC-50 rig after completion of ASD-1X.
Anu Sennan is operated by Kuwait Energy Egypt (25%). Joint venture partners are UOG (22%), Global Connect Ltd. (25%), and Dover Investments (28%).
