Baker Hughes: International rig count up 11 units in August

The international rig count for August reached 1,008 units, up 11 from the 997 counted in July, and up 56 from the 952 counted a year ago, according to Baker Hughes data. The international offshore rig count for August was 212, down 5 units from the 217 counted in July, and up 11 from the 201 counted in August 2017.

The international offshore rig count for August was 212, down 5 units from the 217 counted in July, and up 11 from the 201 counted in August 2017.

The worldwide rig count for August was 2,278 units, up 27 from the 2,251 counted in July, and up 162 from the 2,116 counted in August 2017.

Latin America gained 2 units from the previous month to 192 and is down a unit year-over-year.

The average US rig count for August was unchanged at 1,050 units counted in July, and up 103 from the 947 counted in August 2017. The average Canadian rig count for August was 220, up 16 from the 204 counted in July, and up 3 from the 217 counted in August 2017.

The Asia-Pacific region is down 4 units during the month to 225, but up from its year-ago average of 195.

Africa is up 6 units to 104 and up from its August 2017 average of 84.

Europe is up 5 units to reach 85 August, but down 6 units year-over-year.

The Middle East is up 2 units month-over-month at 402, and up from its August 2017 average of 391.
