Oil & Gas Journal Breakfast Series - LNG

Industry experts gathered in June for a timely discussion on opportunities and challenges in the LNG sector as part of the Oil & Gas Journal Breakfast Series.

The experts discussed an array of factors impacting the LNG market, including supply and demand dynamics, pricing trends, regulatory updates, technological innovations, and geopolitical events.

A presentation from Mark Bononi, Principal, North America Gas & LNG Asset Research, WoodMackenzie, brought an overview of the LNG market and a view of on-the-ground realities. Bononi said the lifting the "Biden pause" on advancing LNG projects wasn't the only hurdle to clear. He pointed to structural constraints including labor shortages and an overall increase in project costs due, in part, to inflation and interest rates.

A panel discussion added expertise from Dr. Robert Brooks, chief executive officer and founder of RBAC Inc.; Dr. Francisco Monaldi, director, Latin America Energy Program, Baker Institute for Public Policy, Rice University; and Alex Munton, Director - Global Gas Service, Rapidan Energy Group.

The panelists talked about the rising energy demands from artificial intelligence and data centers, LNG construction constraints, export reliability, as well as risks and regulatory hurdles for US and international projects.
