HOUSTON, Jan. 29
– A second rig is working in Albania for Bankers Petroleum Ltd., Calgary, handling its first of several planned horizontal wells in Patos-Marinza heavy oil field.

The company plans to drill 52 horizontal wells in 2010 using the two rigs.

The just-added Crosco Skytop 3 rig with a 3,000-m depth capacity is drilling well 5027 in the northern part of the field. It has a target depth of 2,285 m with a 525-m lateral in the D3 zone of the Lower Driza formation. The rig will drill two other wells from the same pad.

The existing Simmons No. 51 rig with a 2,500-m depth capacity will soon drill horizontal wells for the first time in the field to the D2 formation and in one of the multiple sands in the Marinza formation. The formations are all of Miocene age.
