Canada Energy Regulator names new chief executive officer

The Canadian government has appointed Gitane De Silva as chief executive officer of the Canada Energy Regulator (CER). De Silva is appointed for a term of 5 years.

The Canadian government has appointed Gitane De Silva as chief executive officer of the Canada Energy Regulator (CER). De Silva is appointed for a term of 5 years.

De Silva has served in several senior executive roles within the governments of Canada and Alberta, including at Global Affairs Canada and as Alberta's senior representative to the US. Most recently, she worked as special advisor of external affairs at TransAlta.

De Silva succeeds Sandy Lapointe who had served as acting chief executive officer since March (OGJ Online, Mar. 11, 2020). Peter Watson left the role in March after 6 years.
