Gulf Coast Midstream Partners LLC (GCMP) has launched a non-binding open season for firm natural gas storage and wheeling services at its proposed Nash Storage Hub in Fort Bend County, Tex.

The project, formerly known as the Freeport Energy Storage Hub, is a planned high-cycle salt cavern natural gas storage and transportation hub near more than 15 interstate and intrastate pipeline systems, the company said in a release Sept. 9. GCMP said the project is intended to connect Permian basin gas supplies with Gulf Coast demand markets, including LNG export plants, power generators, utilities, and industrial customers.

GCMP has received Railroad Commission of Texas permits to develop up to five salt caverns with about 57 bcf of working gas storage capacity at the Nash Dome site. Initial development would consist of two caverns with a combined 23 bcf of working gas capacity, 0.9 bcfd of injection capacity, and 1.5 bcfd of withdrawal capacity. The project is currently undergoing front-end engineering, cavern design, and project planning. 

The first phase would also include a large-diameter header system, a bidirectional booster station, and multiple bidirectional pipeline interconnections.

GCMP said the hub is expected to connect with major pipeline systems including Tennessee Gas Pipeline, Natural Gas Pipeline Co. of America (NGPL), Transco, Matterhorn, Eiger, Traverse, Solitude, Enterprise, Tejas, Gulf South, and Florida Gas Transmission (FGT).

GCMP expects to reach final investment decision by Apr. 1, 2027, with in-service targeted for Apr. 1, 2030.

The open season runs through Oct. 23, 2026.
