BKV completes Barnett shale asset acquisition

The deal includes over 65,000 MMcfd equivalent production, about 1,000 gross operated wells, and an operated CCS project.

BKV Corp. completed the acquisition of Barnett Shale upstream, midstream, and carbon capture and storage (CCS) assets in a deal that closed on Sept. 15, 2026. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The operator added over 65 MMcfd equivalent of production, more than 50% of which is liquids with low proved developed producing (PDP) decline rate, about 0.35 tcf equivalent of PDP reserves, some 117,000 net acres primarily in Montague County, and about 1,000 gross operated wells. The deal also includes a gas plant and an operated CCS project.

The CCS project captured over 100,000 metric tons of CO2 over the trailing 12 months through first-quarter 2026 from three compressors and a gas plant, including an operated CO2 pipeline and injection well.

The gas plant has 180 MMcfd of capacity and about 340 miles of owned gas gathering lines, plus about 225 miles of owned water gathering system and two saltwater disposal wells.

The acquisition further advances BKV’s closed-loop energy strategy by expanding BKV’s operational footprint and production capacity with additional Barnett Shale assets that complement the company’s existing operations and infrastructure. The transaction is expected to expand BKV’s Barnett gas volumes available to serve demand centers in Dallas-Fort Worth and the Gulf Coast.
