The Northern Territory government has released new onshore acreage with two areas on offer in the southern Georgina basin on the Northern Territory-Queensland border.
The region has some of the most prospective areas in the basin, known for organic-rich shales and numerous documented oil and gas shows.
The total area is 30,780 sq km.
Previous work in the area includes 2D seismic surveys and 13 exploration wells, some of which have been fractured and tested.
Competitive bidding opened on June 16 and the submission period will remain open for 5 months.
