INEOS Shale plans to drill two coring tests in the UK, where it recently expanded its holdings to more than 1.2 million acres by acquiring all onshore UK petroleum exploration and development license (PEDL) interests of Engie E&P UK Ltd.

The INEOS Upstream Ltd. unit is seeking local approvals to drill vertical coring wells 0.5 km southwest of Marsh Lane, Derbyshire, and 0.7 km east of Harthill, Rotherham.

It shot 2D and 3D seismic surveys over the Marsh Lane area, in PEDL 300, and based the Harthill location, in PEDL 304, on existing seismic data.

It plans a pressure transient test of the Harthill well, which will be drilled to about 2,800 m. Target depth of the Marsh Lane hole is 2,400 m.

The wells would be used to monitor any subsequent drilling and hydraulic fracturing.

From Engie, INEOS acquired minority interests in 15 licenses, in seven of which it already held interests.

INEOS operates three of the licenses in the Engie transaction. IGas Energy PLC operates eight, and Cuadrilla Resources Ltd. operates four.
