Masirah Oil Ltd. (MOL) drilled three exploration prospects near Yumna field, offshore Oman.

The first prospect, Zakhera, was drilled 11 km south of Yumna. The target reservoir came in on depth with good oil shows but poor sand quality. Yumna East was drilled 3 km east of Yumna with good quality sands in the target reservoir, but the reservoir was water filled.

The third prospect, Yumna North, was drilled 6 km north of Yumna. It also encountered good quality reservoir sands but the reservoir was also water filled. Results confirm extent of good quality Lower Aruma sandstone and will help refine MOL’s understanding of the trap mechanisms in the area, the company said.

The wells followed drilling of two Yumna field development wells (OGJ Online, Feb. 1, 2021). These wells, combined with a third production well, were tested steadily over a week at rates of 20,000 b/d. The production rate has since then been optimized in accordance with the reservoir management plan, aimed at maximizing recovery from the field, the company said. Based on the success of these wells, MOL has upgraded liquid capacity of its production facilities to 30,000 b/d.
