The rig count in Canada is down 5 units to 211 working for the week ended Aug. 28, according to Baker Hughes data. The weekly total is up 36 units from the 175 rigs working this time a year ago. The decline is attributable mostly to oil-directed rigs, which decreased by 4 to reach a count of 144. Gas-directed rigs in Canada fell by 2 to end the week with 63 units working.

There were 588 rigs working in the US and its waters, unchanged from last week. The count is up 52 units from the 536 rigs running in the US this time last year.

US oil-directed rigs decreased by 5 units to 447. The decrease was offset by a 5-unit gain in gas-directed rigs. With 132 gas-directed rigs running in the US this week, the count is 13 more than the year-ago period.

The number of rigs drilling on land in the US was unchanged at 576. One additional rig was drilling in inland waters for a total of 3, while one fewer rig was drilling offshore for a total of 9 rigs working.

New Mexico, Colorado, and Ohio each dopped 1 rig to end the week with respective rig counts of 95, 12, and 9. Texas, Louisiana, and Wyoming each gained a unit to end the week with 282, 36, and 15 rigs working, respectively.
