  • It is Pakistan's first successful horizontal oil well in a clastic reservoir.

Oil and Gas Development Co. Ltd. (OGDCL) started oil production from horizontal well Pasakhi-13, District Hyderabad, Sindh province, Pakistan.

The well was drilled to 2,966 m MD, including a 546-m horizontal section with application of geo-steering technology, enabling precise navigation within a narrow 3-m drilling window to optimally target the sweet spot within the lower Goru-A sand. It is Pakistan's first successful horizontal oil well in a clastic reservoir, the company said.

The well was completed and tested using a short string electric submersible pump (ESP) optimized for horizontal well configurations. The well is currently producing about 460 b/d. Horizontal drilling enabled enhanced reservoir exposure and delivered nearly threefold higher production compared with offset wells under similar conditions, the company noted.

Pasakhi-13 well is part of the Pasakhi and Pasakhi North Development & Production Lease (D&PL). OGDCL holds 100% working interest.
