Key Highlights

  • OGDCL discovered oil in Pakistan.
  • Initial testing showed a flow rate of 275 b/d through a 32/64-in. choke.
  • Formation testing indicated oil presence in the Lower Ranikot formation, prompting further evaluation.

Oil & Gas Development Comp. Ltd. (OGDCL) discovered oil in District Tando Allah Yar, Sindh Province, Pakistan.

Chakar–1, the 13th discovery in the Tando Allah Yar exploration license (TAY EL), was spudded on June 2, 2025. The well reached 1,926 m TD into the Upper Shale of the Lower Goru formation.

Based on the interpretation of wireline logs and reservoir evaluation services (RES) log, a drill stem test (DST) was carried out in the B-Sand, followed by testing with an electrical submersible pump (ESP). The well flowed 275 b/d of oil through a 32/64-in. choke at a wellhead flowing pressure (WHFP) of 400 psi.

During formation testing using RES, oil was encountered in the Lower Ranikot formation. A second DST/ESP is now being conducted to further assess its hydrocarbon potential.

OGDCL is operator at TAY EL (95%) with joint venture partner Government Holdings (Private) Ltd. (GHPL, 5%).
