Petronas completes first well of four-well drilling campaign in block offshore Suriname
in Block 52 offshore Suriname, advancing the company’s aim to further delineate resources and assess development concepts towards a commercial project in the block.
The well, the first in a four-well 2025-2026 drilling campaign on Block 52, delivered “encouraging results,” Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname N.V. (Staatsolie) said in a December release. Additional details were not provided.
The well was spudded in the western part of the block on July 21, 2025, and plugged on Dec. 6, 2025.
Block 52, which covers about 4,750 sq km in water depths of 60-1,000 m, lies about 140 km offshore.
The completion follows three consecutive discoveries in the block. The Sloanea-2 appraisal well validated earlier finds and demonstrated potential for a floating LNG development, while the Fusaea-1 well confirmed the company's third hydrocarbon discovery.
Building on insights from Roystonea-1 and Sloanea-1, Petronas is evaluating an integrated development strategy for the block.
