A/S Norske Shell has been given consent for exploration drilling in Block 6305/5, production license (PL) 209, in the Norwegian Sea by the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway.

The well is related to work detailed in a submission to the Norwegian Environment Agency in November 2021. In it, the operator applied for a permit to drill production wells 6305/7-D-4 (D4) and 6305/5-C-3 AH (C3 infill) and exploration well 6305/5-C- 3-H (C3 deep) on Ormen Lange. That submission noted a drilling start in February with a duration of 242 days.

The Transocean Barents semisubmersible rig will drill the well in 925 m of water.

Ormen Lange comprises four 8-slot subsea templates with a total of 24 production wells. Original recoverable reserves are 301.6 million std cu m gas and 19.1 million std cu m condensate. Remaining reserves are 70.6 million std cu m gas and 3.2 million std cu m condensate.
