Block Energy PLC spudded WR-B1 at the WR-BA location on West Rustavi field, onshore Georgia, on June 23.

The target is the West Rustavi Middle Eocene reservoir with 2.1 MMboe recoverable oil and gas. A horizontal section about 800-m long will be completed with a production packer and a slotted horizontal liner fitted with external swellable packers to provide water shut off capability (OGJ Online June 14, 2021).

WR-B1 will be the first well drilled using data from the 3D-seismic survey acquired over the license area in 2019. If successful, WR-B1 will be tied into Block's Early Production Facility (OGJ Online, Sept. 24, 2020).

Drilling preparations included a geomechanical study to derisk potential operational challenges. Particular attention was paid to drilling fluids and cementing design due to potential faults and fractures. Rotary steerable systems and logging-while-drilling will be deployed, which are firsts in Georgia.
