Block Energy will drill a horizontal well at the WR-BA location in West Rustavi field, onshore Georgia, as the first project of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Baker Hughes to support drilling operations in the country. The well will target an estimated 2.1 MMboe recoverable volume.

This will be Block's first new horizontal well at WR-BA and will include advanced rotary steerable technology. Logging-while-drilling measurements will be acquired to aid reservoir characterization and production optimization, Block Energy said in a June 14 statement.

The MoU includes multiple service awards for advanced oil and gas technology across a production-led, multi-well drilling program in Block’s portfolio. Services provided by Baker Hughes include drilling fluids, cementing, drill bits, directional drilling with rotary steerable systems, and a premium logging-while-drilling service.

Baker Hughes also will provide a range of well intervention and production-enhancement services. This will be achieved through the application of enhanced mechanical and chemical technologies to the company's planned well interventions, including that of the company's first appraisal well, WR-16aZ.

The service provider also will assist Block Energy in evaluating its portfolio of conventional oil and gas assets and green energy opportunities. Initial focus will be on production enhancement of the company's mature assets and developing geothermal production potential across Samgori, Patardzeuli, and West Rustavi fields.
