Tethys Oil AB, through subsidiary Tethys Oil Montasar Ltd., will begin a well testing program to attempt to flow hydrocarbons to the surface following hydrocarbon shows encountered by exploration well Thameen-1 on Block 49 onshore the Sultanate of Oman. Results are expected within 3 weeks.

The well was drilled to its final total depth and wireline logging operations have been completed. The well encountered hydrocarbon shows in the primary target, the Late Ordovician Hasirah sandstone (OGJ Online, Jan. 4, 2021).

While not yet a discovery, the encounter is encouraging for the overall prospectivity of the block, said Tethys Managing Director Magnus Nordin.

Tethys Oil Montasar is operator of the block with 50% working interest. EOG Resources Inc. agreed to a 50% farm in in November 2020 (OGJ Online, Nov. 10, 2020).
