Rathlin Energy (UK) Ltd. has commenced a sidetrack drilling operation, expected to take about 3 weeks, from the West Newton B-1 appraisal (WNB-1) on PEDL183 in East Yorkshire.

The objective of the WNB-1Z sidetrack is to evaluate the Kirkham Abbey formation in a structurally superior location to WNB-1, on-trend with the previously discovered Kirkham Abbey accumulation.

The WNB-1 was drilled to 2,295 m TD, encountering Kirkham Abbey and Cadeby formations. Kirkham Abbey indicated a hydrocarbon charge based on wireline logs, cuttings, and mud gas readings, but Cadeby contained insufficient reservoir development within the targeted slope environment.

Information derived from WNB-1 and WNB-1Z will inform a subsequent program of well testing and any future drilling operations.

PEDL183 is operated by Rathlin Energy Ltd. (66.67%) with partners Union Jack (16.665%) and Reabold Resources (16.665%).
