Baker Hughes: Canada gains 8 rigs for the week

Canada has added 8 rigs for the week ended Aug. 2, according to Baker Hughes data. The increase puts the total number of rigs running in Canada at 219, 31 more than the 188 units drilling this week a year ago.

Gas-directed rigs in Canada increased by 2 to a total of 69. Oil-directed rigs were up 6 to 150 for the week.

The US drilling rig count fell by 3 units to 586 rigs working during the week. There were 659 rigs running this week a year ago.

The US land rig count ended the week at 566, 2 fewer than last week, while inland water drilling was unchanged with no rigs running. Twenty rigs were working offshore, one fewer than last week.

The number of rigs drilling for oil was unchanged at 482 for the week. The gas-directed rig count was down 3 units to 98.

Horizontal drilling rigs were down 3 units to 520. Directional drilling rigs were unchanged at 49. Vertical rigs were also unchanged week over week, leaving 17 rigs working for the week.

Texas saw the largest decrease of the major oil and gas-producing states, dropping 2 units to reach a total of 247. Louisiana, Pennsylvania, and Colorado dropped 1 rig each to reach respective counts of 40, 20, and 13 rigs working this week.

Wyoming and California each gained a single unit to end the week with 12 and 8 rigs running, respectively.
