CNOOC begins production at Weizhou 5-3 development project

The project is expected to achieve plateau production of about 10,000 boe/d in 2026. The oil property is medium crude.

CNOOC Ltd. has started production at the Weizhou 5-3 oilfield development project in the Beibu Gulf basin of the South China Sea.

The main production infrastructure includes one self-installing wellhead platform, which leverages the adjacent existing infrastructure for development, the company said in a release June 8. Ten development wells are expected to be commissioned, including seven production wells, two water injection wells, and one gas injection well.

The project is expected to achieve plateau production of about 10,000 boe/d in 2026. The oil property is medium crude. Average water depth at the site is about 35 m.

CNOOC holds 51% interest in the project. Smart Oil Investment Ltd. holds the remaining 49%.
