bp extends GOM ultra-deepwater drillship contract

bp has let a 2-year contract to Diamond Offshore Drilling Inc. for the ultra-deepwater drillship Ocean BlackLion in the Gulf of Mexico.

bp has let a 2-year contract to Diamond Offshore Drilling Inc. for the ultra-deepwater drillship Ocean BlackLion in the Gulf of Mexico. Contract work will start in September 2024 in direct continuation of the rig’s current contract.

The BlackLion specifications include dynamic-positioning, dual activity capability, a maximum 1,250-ton hook-load capacity, and operating capability in 12,000 ft of water (OGJ Online, May 21, 2012).
