The weekly rig count increased in Canada and in the US for the week ending Jan. 26, according to Baker Hughes.
In Canada, the rig count increased by 7 to 230 from last week. A year ago, Canada's count was 247.
There were 621 rotary rigs working in the US and its waters this week, up a single unit from last week. There were 771 rigs drilling in the US and its waters in the comparable period a year ago.
Of the rigs working in the US this week, 499 were drilling for oil, 2 more than last week; 119 were drilling for gas, down 1 from last week; and 3 were unclassified, unchanged from last week. There were 602 rigs on land, none in inland waters, and 19 offshore.
New Mexico, Wyoming, and Utah each gained a rig this week to respective counts of 99, 13, and 11.
Texas, Louisiana, and North Dakota each dropped a rig this week, reaching respective counts of 304, 42, and 32.
