Permian rig count up 7, Canada down 16

The rig count in Canada fell by an additional 16 rigs, according to Baker Hughes data, following a 23-rig drop last week. A total of 207 rigs were running in Canada this week, still up 31 from the year-ago level.

The rig count in Canada fell by an additional 16 rigs, according to Baker Hughes data, following a 23-rig drop last week. A total of 207 rigs were running in Canada this week, still up 31 from the year-ago level.

In the US, 8 more rigs were running for a total of 754. The count is up 91 from the 663 rigs running in the US this time last year.

US oil-directed rigs fell by 1 unit to 589. Gas-directed rigs increased by 9 to 162.

The rig count in the Eagle Ford shale fell by 2. Rigs in the Permian basin increased by 7, accounting for most of the US rise.
