Canada’s rig count jumps 24 units, US also up

Canada’s drilling rig count jumped 24 units to reach 141 rigs running during the week ended June 10, up 48 from the year-ago period. Oil-directed rigs rose 22 units while gas-directed rigs increased 2 units to 48.

Canada’s drilling rig count jumped 24 units to reach 141 rigs running during the week ended June 10, up 48 from the year-ago period. Oil-directed rigs rose 22 units while gas-directed rigs increased 2 units to 48.

The US drilling rig count gained six units, rising to 733, according to Baker Hughes data. All six of the units to come online were oil-directed.

The count is up 272 rigs from the 461 running this time last year.

Land-based rigs rose five units to 709, with two rigs added in inland waters and one Gulf of Mexico rig removed.

The Permian rose three units to 345. Active rigs in the Eagle Ford gained 2 units to 68.
