Shell plc has extended the contract for the drillship Maersk Voyager for drilling services offshore Mexico.

Shell plc has extended the contract for the drillship Maersk Voyager for drilling services offshore Mexico.

The contract extension is expected to start in April 2023, in direct continuation of the rig’s current contract, with a firm duration of 6 months. The contract extension value is about $77 million, excluding integrated services expected to be provided and potential performance bonuses.

Shell and Maersk also have amended options in the contract to add up to 18 months of additional drilling work and will implement a solution from Maersk Drilling subsidiary Horizon56 to standardize and digitize core workflows in well construction, including real-time exchange of information between onshore planning units, offshore drilling teams, and service companies supporting operations.

Maersk Voyager is a 7th generation high-spec ultra-deepwater drillship which was delivered in 2014. It is currently mobilizing for a drilling campaign offshore Suriname with Shell.
