Canacol Energy Ltd. will tie in its Nelson 9 development well in the Magdalena basin of northwestern Colombia following an encounter of 52 ft true vertical depth of gas pay within the Porquero sandstone target. The well is expected to be on production this month.

The move comes following news of tie in plans of Esperanza block Cañahuate 4 development well in the Lower Magdalena basin (OGJ Online, Apr. 14, 2021).

The Aguas Vivas 1 exploration well is expected to spud by mid-month.

The wells are part of the company’s 2021 drilling program in which it expects to drill 12 wells (9 exploration, 3 development), all operated with 100% working interest.

Company gas sales averaged 166 million standard cu ft/d in April 2021.
