The US drilling rig count gained 2 units to reach 348 during the week ended Dec. 18, data from Baker Hughes indicate. The report shows an overall decrease of 457 units from year-ago levels.
Offshore units were up 1 this week at 17 rigs. A total of 331 rigs were drilling on land.
Rigs targeting oil were down 413 units year-on-year. Gas-targeted rigs were down 42 units and miscellaneous rigs down 2.
The rig count in Canada is down 20 units from last week to 82. This time a year ago, 99 rigs were working. Oil-directed rigs were down 10 units this week to 31, while those targeting gas dropped 10 units to 51.
