Chariot Oil & Gas Ltd., London, said the Ocean Rig Poseidon deepwater drillship was expected to arrive by Sept. 30 at the Prospect S well site offshore Namibia with spudding planned shortly after the vessel’s arrival. Drilling is expected to take 40 days in 1,650 m of water.
Independent estimates for Prospect S suggest gross mean prospective resources of 459 million bbl of oil, Chariot said.
Prospect S is one of five dip-closed structural traps for which a total 1,758 million bbl gross mean prospective resources is estimated in the Upper Cretaceous turbidite clastic play fairway (OGJ Online, June 4, 2018).
Drilling results along with seismic data will help determine the feasibility of another two higher-risk stratigraphic traps, with an estimated 885 million bbl gross mean prospective resources.
Chariot operates the Central Blocks license offshore Namibia. Chariot holds 65% interest. Partners are Azinam Ltd. 20%, state-owned NAMCOR 10%, and Ignitus Oil & Gas 5%.
