Pittsburgh-based Mountain Valley Pipeline LLC proposed a 70-mile extension of the interstate natural gas pipeline to central North Carolina. The MVP Gateway Project would receive gas from the main pipeline in Pittsylvania County, Va., and ship it to Rockingham and Alamance counties, officials said.
EQT Midstream Partners LP will operate MVP Gateway, which is expected to go into service during fourth-quarter 2020, subject to US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approval. It will be anchored by firm capacity to PSNC Energy, a SCANA Corp. subsidiary.
Mountain Valley Pipeline also announced a binding open season for MVP Southgate, which will end on May 11. The project’s final scope will be determined at that time, officials said.
