The international rig count decreased 7 units month-over-month to 972 in March from 979 rigs in February, and up 29 from 943 a year ago, according to Baker Hughes data.

The international offshore rig count for March was 185, down 9 from 194 in the previous month, and down 12 from 197 in March 2017.

The worldwide rig count for March was 2,179, down 92 from 2,271 in February and up 194 from 1,985 in March 2017.

Latin America lost 6 units in March to 193, up 8 units year-over-year.

The average US rig count for March was 989, up 20 from 969 in February and up 200 from 789 in March 2017. The average Canadian rig count for March was 218, down 105 from 323 in February, and down 35 from 253 in March 2017.

The Asia-Pacific region was down 6 units during the month to 204 and up 6 rigs compared with its March 2017 average.

Africa was down 1 unit during the month to 89, but up 9 year-over-year.

Europe was up 5 units to reach 89 in March but is down 5 units year-over-year.

The Middle East was up 1 unit month-over-month at 397, up 11 from its March 2017 average.
