WhiteWater to expand Pelican Pipeline to support Commonwealth LNG in Louisiana

WhiteWater plans a greenfield pipeline project, a 65-mile line expected to be operational ahead of Commonwealth LNG's planned Phase 1 start in 2030.

WhiteWater, Austin, Tex., is expanding its Pelican Pipeline system in Louisiana with the Pelican Thrasher Lateral, a greenfield pipeline project expected to deliver gas to the 9.5-million tonnes/year Commonwealth LNG plant under development on the west bank of the Calcasieu Ship Channel in Cameron Parish, La.

Caturus LLC reached a final investment decision on the $13.5-billion Commonwealth LNG project earlier this month.

The 2.5 bcfd Pelican Thrasher Lateral will consist of about 65 miles of 42-in. OD pipe originating in the Gillis area in Beauregard Parish, La. It is expected to be in service in first-half 2029, ahead of Commonwealth LNG’s planned Phase 1 operational start in 2030.

The Pelican Pipeline has been designed to transport up to 1.75 bcfd of natural gas through about 170 miles of 42-in. OD pipe from Williams, La., to the Gillis Hub near Ragley, La. Supply is expected to be sourced from multiple upstream connections in the Haynesville basin. The line is expected to be in service in first-half 2027, pending receipt of customary regulatory and other approvals.
