Mountain Valley Pipeline begins operations

Equitrans Midstream Corp. placed into service the 303-mile Mountain Valley natural gas pipeline (MVP) on June 14.

Equitrans Midstream Corp. placed into service the 303-mile Mountain Valley natural gas pipeline (MVP) June 14 after satisfying all applicable legal and regulatory requirements and receiving all remaining approvals from the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

MVP is now available for interruptible or short-term firm transportation service until long-term firm capacity obligations begin on July 1, 2024.

MVP (42-in. OD) runs from Wetzel County, WV, to an interconnect with Transcontinental Gas Pipeline Co.at the latter’s Compressor Station 165 in Pittsylvania County, Va. The 2-bcfd underground pipeline was originally scheduled to begin operations in 2018 but had been delayed repeatedly by litigation.
