Glenfarne, PTT to cooperate on Alaska LNG development; 2-million tpy to Thailand

Glenfarne Alaska LNG LLC earlier this week signed a cooperation agreement with PTT Public Co. Ltd. for strategic participation in the 20-million tonne/year (tpy) Alaska LNG project, including the procurement of 2 million tpy over a 20-year term. The cooperation agreement defines the process for Alaska LNG and PTT to move toward definitive agreements for partnership on Alaska LNG, including long-term LNG offtake.

Alaska LNG said the deal meant 50% of its available third-party LNG offtake had now been reserved. The plant’s proximity to Asia will reduce the cost of shipping LNG to the continent, relative to volumes originating from the US Gulf Coast. The project is fully permitted.

In addition to the liquefaction plant, Alaska LNG consists of an 807-mile, 42-in. OD pipeline, which will supply local markets in addition to the project’s feed gas.  Phase 1 of the pipeline will deliver natural gas 765 miles from the North Slope to the Anchorage region. Phase 2 adds compression equipment and roughly 42 miles of pipeline under the Cook Inlet to the Alaska LNG plant in Nikiski, which will be built concurrently with the plant.

Glenfarne says it is actively engaged with pipeline contractors and is partnering with Worley Group Inc. to complete engineering in support of a final investment decision for the domestic pipeline portion of the project (OGJ Online, May 27, 2025). The company is also seeking additional strategic partners.

Alaska LNG is held under 8 Star Alaska LLC, a joint venture between Glenfarne Group LLC subsidiary, Glenfarne Alaska LNG LLC, the majority owner and lead developer of Alaska LNG, and the Alaska Gasline Development Corp. PTT is the publicly traded national oil and gas company of Thailand.
