Royal Boskalis Westminster NV (Boskalis) won a contract to connect an offshore floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) to an onshore power plant in El Salvador. The contract was awarded by Energia del Pacifico (EDP), a 378-Mw LNG-to-power project at Port of Acajutla, El Salvador. Work will begin early 2020 and the project is scheduled to be operational by end-2021.

The project entails construction of a 2-km gas pipeline connecting the onshore power plant to an offshore FSRU, including mooring and hook-up. Work will include construction of a microtunnel from the power plant into the sea followed by dredging of an offshore pipeline trench. With the aid of a construction support vessel (CSV), Boskalis will pull the 24-in. OD pipeline through the microtunnel and trench.

Installation of an offshore riser will connect the FSRU to the pipeline. An anchor spread with 11 anchors will permanently moor the FSRU in position. For physical mooring of the FSRU and the FSRU hook-up, Boskalis will deploy a CSV, a medium-sized trailer suction hopper dredger, and a backhoe dredger.
