Sempra LNG, a subsidiary of Sempra Energy, has begun producing LNG from the second liquefaction train of its Cameron LNG plant in Hackberry, La. Train 2 and Train 3 are expected to begin commercial operations in first- and third-quarter 2020, respectively. Cameron’s first liquefaction train started commercial operations in August 2019.
Phase 1 of Cameron LNG includes the first three liquefaction trains, totaling roughly 12 million tonnes/year (tpy) of production. Cameron LNG Phase 2, previously authorized by the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, could include up to two additional liquefaction trains.
Sempra Energy is also developing Port Arthur LNG in Texas (13.5 million tpy, 2023) and Energía Costa Azul LNG in Mexico (2.4 million tpy, 2023).
Cameron LNG is jointly owned by affiliates of Sempra LNG, Total, Mitsui & Co. Ltd., and Japan LNG Investment LLC, a company jointly owned by Mitsubishi Corp. and Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK). Sempra Energy indirectly owns 50.2% of Cameron LNG.
