Marathon Petroleum names Mannen to succeed Hennigan as CEO

Marathon Petroleum has named MPC president Maryann T. Mannen to succeed Michael J. Hennigan as chief executive officer. She will also join the board of directors.

Marathon Petroleum Corp. (MPC) has named MPC president Maryann T. Mannen to succeed Michael J. Hennigan as chief executive officer of MPC and MPLX GP LLC. She will join the board of directors and will continue to serve on the board of MPLX GP LLC. 

Hennigan, who has led MPC and MPLX GP LLC as chief executive since March 2020, will transition to executive chairman of the board of MPC and MPLX GP LLC. MPC chairman John Surma has been elected to serve as independent lead director of MPC. Christopher A. Helms will continue as MPLX's independent lead director. All appointments are effective Aug. 1, 2024.

Mannen has served as president since January 2024, after previously serving as executive vice-president and chief financial officer since January 2021. She has also served as a member of the board of the general partner of MPLX LP since February 2021. Before joining MPC, Mannen served as executive vice-president and chief financial officer of TechnipFMC.
