Occidental, OxyChem appoint management

Occidental Petroleum Corp. has appointed Sunil Mathew senior vice-president and CFO, effective Aug. 9. He succeeds Robert Peterson in the chief financial officer role, the company said in an SEC filing Aug. 9.

Occidental Petroleum Corp. has appointed Sunil Mathew senior vice-president and chief financial officer, effective Aug. 9, 2023. He succeeds Robert Peterson in the chief financial officer role, the company said in an SEC filing Aug. 9.

Mathew has 25 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. He most recently served the company as vice-president strategic planning, analysis and business development since April 2020. He was instrumental in completing Occidental’s divestiture program of about $10 billion following the operator’s acquisition of Anadarko Petroleum, the filing said (OGJ Online, Aug. 8, 2019). He joined the company in 2004.

Robert Peterson remains senior vice-president of Occidental, and was named executive vice-president, essential chemistry, of Occidental Chemical Corp. (OxyChem), the company said.

Prior to transitioning to his new role, Peterson served as chief financial officer of Occidental Petroleum since April 2020 (OGJ Online, Apr. 6, 2020). He joined OxyChem in 1996.

In his new role, Peterson will have executive oversight for OxyChem, as well as operational readiness for Occidental Petroleum’s first Direct Air Capture (DAC) facility, Stratos, and subsequent DAC plants.
