Unit makes senior management changes
Unit Corp., Tulsa, Okla., has named Philip Smith, the company’s chairman, to the added positions of president and chief executive officer, effective immediately, following the resignation of David Merrill as president, chief executive officer, and board member.
Merrill was elected chief executive officer in February as part of the company’s succession planning process initiated in 2017 (OGJ Online, Feb. 21, 2020). The company exited Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in September after filing in May (OGJ Online, May 26, 2020).
Thomas Sell has joined the company as interim chief financial officer, succeeding Les Austin, who has retired his role as the company’s chief financial officer. Sell previously served as chief financial officer of Montereau Inc.
Frank Young has stepped down from his position as executive vice-president of Unit Petroleum, the company’s exploration and production affiliate.
David P. Dunham has been promoted to senior vice-president and chief operating officer. Dunham joined the company in November 2007 and most recently served as senior vice-president of business development.
